About Simonsig
THREE GENERATIONS OF THE MALAN LEGACY
Simonsig Wine Estate is synonymous with the history of the South African wine industry, the Stellenbosch wine region, and the Malan family name.
Named after the majestic views of the Simonsberg Mountain, Simonsig Wine Estate was the first South African producer of Method Cap Classique and renowned throughout the wine world as an established and leading South African wine estate.
These elements are intertwined in this family-owned farm, where the late Frans Malan produced the first bottle of our much-loved Kaapse Vonkel, South Africaʼs first Méthode Cap Classique made in the classic bottle-fermented style.
He is also honoured for co-founding the thriving Stellenbosch Wine Route, a first in its time. Today, his legacy lives on through his sons, Francois and Johan, and grandchildren Francois-Jacques, Christelle and Michael, the 2nd and 3rd Malan generations at Simonsig Wine Estate.
Simonsig recognise the importance of sustaining the source of our beautiful products, which is why the Estate ascribes to Wieta, BWI, HACCP, IPW and CVC standards that ensure responsible and ethical wine production. Committed to the well-being of our people, Simonsig offers various mentorship and leadership programs to its staff and their children, as well as an on-site crèche and aftercare facility.
At Simonsig, the Malan family values drive the Estate’s commitment to producing wines of internationally regarded excellence, expressing the unique and diverse terroir of the Stellenbosch region. We also believe that being a gift of nature made for the enjoyment of people, our wine offering should always be complemented by true Cape hospitality and efficient service.
