Executing a turnkey irrigation project

From water suction to pipelines, pump stations and drip- or micro-applicators, a well-executed irrigation project allows the farmer to focus on crop production and leave the irrigation to the experts.

A start-to-finish approach

When tackling an irrigation project, there are some crucial steps to follow to ensure an accurate bill of materials, smooth installation, zero wastage and a great success.

1. Survey and assessment: The preparatory phase of your turnkey project

The team completes a detailed survey of the farm and assesses its suitability for irrigation. This is where the suited type of irrigation, based on your water availability, energy resources and topography, is determined.

2. Design: Laying everything out in black-and-white

A skilled team of engineers completes detailed hydraulic designs, layout drawings and pump station blueprints, with a focus on optimised capital- and operational expenditure. Thorough planning during this phase ensures smooth project implementation later.

3.Shipment and delivery: Delivering the building blocks to location

Components, such as irrigation parts, PVC/HDPE pipe, filters and containerised pump stations are supplied, packed and shipped to the area in CKD (‘complete knocked-down form’).

 4. Installation: Getting your hands dirty

The full system is installed on-site by a skilled team of technicians, from digging trenches to laying cables, constructing pump stations and installing irrigation solutions.

5. Automation with remote control: Manage your system on your smart device

Remote irrigation control offers management and control over pivots and pumps as a complete unit, simplifying your irrigation management and saving energy.

 6. After-sales service

Beyond installation, we commission the project and offer technical after-sales service to provide you with the best irrigation support, advice and maintenance.

Features of a successful irrigation project
Water conservation

Irrigation solutions must be designed to save water. Water consumption can be minimised by reducing evaporation and run-off, using durable materials to prevent leaks, scheduling irrigation and more.

Energy efficiency

Improved energy efficiency reduces electrical consumption and operating costs. Pumps are typically one of the largest sources of energy consumption and can be integrated with technology like Agrico Pump Controller and variable speed drives (VSDs) to reduce energy expenditure.

Sustainability

Conserving the environment for generations to come is non-negotiable. Irrigation practices should align with sustainability, by helping growers to make the best use of them without negatively impacting the environment.

Optimal nutrient levels

It is important to maintain optimal nutrient levels within your soil or growing medium to improve your yields. Over-irrigation and excessive nutrient application reduces crop health and yield while consuming more resources.
