WineLand Media, in collaboration with ROTOCON, honoured 30 movers and shakers in the South African wine industry at Leopard’s Leap in Franschhoek. The 30 young professionals were celebrated during a special luncheon on Thursday 15 June.
The luncheon offered attendees the chance to network with other like-minded young people and significant industry figures. SA Wine CEO Rico Basson and Kachné Ross from Winetech People Development were also in attendance, together with the ROTOCON team who sponsored the event for the third consecutive year. WineLand Media dedicates its June issue every year to recognise promising young talent in the South African wine industry.
“At WineLand we want to understand the aspirations of young people working in the wine industry,” says WineLand Media editor, Wanda Augustyn. “We want to know what they’re passionate about and how best to empower them to make the most of new opportunities and become active and productive citizens not only in the South African economy, but also in the wine value chain. Our purpose is to pave the way to prosperity, and this is exactly what the 30 under 30 initiative is all about.”
As a trusted partner of the 30 Under 30 event, ROTOCON has a vested interest in the development and motivation of the young leaders of tomorrow. “It’s our pleasure to once again sponsor the WineLand ROTOCON 30 Under 30 Awards and to celebrate the determination and passion of young wine enthusiasts making a difference in the South African wine industry,” Michael Aengenvoort says.
“By partnering with the WineLand 30 Under 30 initiative, ROTOCON hopes the power of technology will inspire young people to pursue their ambitions in the wine industry. Competitions such as these ensure South Africa’ s most promising wine talent doesn’t slip under the radar.”
“Throughout our industry, the only constant is change,” says Kachné Ross. “The young leaders gathered here today were so adaptable that anyone could identify you as one of the 30 Under 30. I congratulate you on the impact you have made in the industry till this day, and please do not stop here.”
Rico believes this is another fantastic platform where we celebrate the talent of tomorrow. “The wine industry has got its challenges, but when we look at strategy, it’s all about growth and repositioning. Beyond the vineyards, I think people are our biggest asset, so it’s fantastic to see so many talented people here across the value chain.”
