In the past 48 hours, three new food delivery options have launched in Stellenbosch.
With South Africans still coming to terms with self-isolation, school closures and ‘business unusual’, the general mood is one of concern and uncertainty.
Overnight, the South African Government offered clarity around new regulations affecting licensed restaurants, bars, taverns, shebeens and liquor stores (no alcohol to be sold after 18:00 between Monday and Friday and 13:00 on weekends) – including limiting the number of people allowed on the premises (50) – in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
There is little to celebrate. But, as so often happens in unprecedented times, there are businesses who step up, grab the opportunity and start doing things a little differently.
In the past 24 hours alone, three Stellenbosch eateries announced new takeaway menus, curbside service or ready-made meal options. Great news for Stellenbosch locals!
Bertus Basson continues to raise the culinary bar and has announced two new curbside services to accommodate social distancing: Pasta Rapido and Bertus se Huiskos.
Pasta Rapido
Pasta Rapido is a new takeaway concept offering a simple, but delicious menu of four pasta dishes and a salad option.
Pesto Pasta – R105
Bacon & Mushroom Alfredo – R125
Arrabbiata – R105
Gnocchi with Bacon & Peas – R135
Garden Salad – R55
Place your order by phoning 082 569 8958 or on UberEATS. Pick up is from Spek & Bone in Dorp Street, with a no-contact payment solution using SnapScan to make customers feel more comfortable.
Bertus se Huiskos
An extension of Eike, Bertus se Huiskos offers the same delicious traditional South African meals with a quirky, contemporary touch – this time as ready-made meal options for collection or delivery. As Bertus says, “You have to keep on eating so we will keep on cooking!” This week’s meal is traditional bobotie, yellow rice with raisons and cinnamon, orange glazed sweet potato, pickled beetroot and vetkoek. Place your order via WhatsApp on 076 377 5720 or by emailing info@bertusbasson.com. Deliveries take place between 14h00 and 16h00 or you can pick up from Eike by 18h00.
Bicycle delivery has become super trendy and can be one part of evolving into a cleaner city with fewer greenhouse gases.
The Mill Coffee House
The Mill Coffee House has gone mobile in partnership with Carinus Lemmer – riding to the rescue. They’re offering bicycle deliveries to your home. Place your order via WhatsApp on 082 923 0744.
Jeanneret Momberg, General Manager Visit Stellenbosch, is thrilled to see these initiatives in play: “Self-isolating is no fun for individuals or businesses. These are great local options to support if you can!” For more information on Visit Stellenbosch, visit www.visitstellenbosch.org
