“With permission of the Honourable Minister of Tourism and the MEC of Gauteng, we issue the following statement. Kindly be informed that regulations issued by National Department of COGTA (Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs)  refers to the limiting hours for sale of alcohol, not operating hours.
It is important for restaurants to understand that they can continue to trade during their normal trading hours, provided they are selling food, doing deliveries or take-outs.
The restrictions on alcohol sales are as follows:
- Mondays to Saturdays no alcohol is to be served before 09:00 in the morning and after 18:00 in the evening.
- Sundays and public holidays, no alcohol sales before 09:00 in the morning and after 13:00 in the afternoon.
- (Please note: As Saturday, 21 March 2020 is a public holiday, alcohol may only be sold or served between 09:00 and 13:00 on this specific day. For all other Saturdays, the 09:00 to 18:00 trading/serving hours will apply.)
- It’s important that restaurants act responsibly and not encourage any form of a gathering.
- No bulk sales, and no patrons to bring their own wine.
- At any one point of time there can only be 50 people allowed in any establishment, including staff.
