Prescient Cape Bordeaux Red Blend Report 2022 is now live

This year’s Cape Bordeaux Red Blend Report sponsored by multinational financial services company Prescient attracted 55 entries and these were tasted blind (labels out of sight) by a three-person panel, scoring done according to the 100-point quality scale.

“Some excellent wines but overall, the category did not show that well with 58% of the line-up rating sub-90,” says Christian Eedes, panel chairman and editor of Winemag.co.za.

“More than half the wines were from 2018 and 2019 which are generally considered to have been difficult vintages and consumers need to maker their purchase decisions with care”.

Winemag.co.za, in conjunction with Prescient, presented the sixth annual Cabernet Sauvignon Report with a line-up of 65 wines submitted by invitation only and judged blind.

Fifteen wines were rated 90 or higher on the 100-point quality scale and these were celebrated at an event held at The Stack, Leinster Hall in Cape Town.

The highest scoring wines were Neil Ellis Jonkershoek Valley Stellenbosch 2014 and Strydom Rex 2014 with 92 points. Bartinney 2014, Jordan The Long Fuse 2014, Kleine Zalze Family Reserve 2013, Le Riche Reserve 2014, Peter Falke 2013, Rustenberg Peter Barlow 2012, Tokara Reserve Collection 2013, Waterford Estate 2014 and Warwick Blue Lady 2014 all scored 91. Groot Constantia 2015, Neil Ellis Stellenbosch 2014, Spier 21 Gables 2014 and Vergelegen V 2012 scored 90.
