Checkers has added 41 new limited edition wines to its Odd Bins collection, of which two were awarded Double Gold and Gold at the prestigious Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards earlier this month.
Odd Bins 243 (2022 Sauvignon Blanc) and Odd Bins 248 (2022 Sauvignon Blanc) picked up Double Gold and Gold respectively at South Africa’s only international wine competition.
The Odd Bins collection is available exclusively from Checkers and consists of limited edition vintages from local wine farms.

Carefully selected and given a unique bin number, the original label is kept secret to ensure the wine remains both affordable and accessible – offering the best value and selection without compromising on quality for the past 27 years.
Each Odd Bins wine is unique and once the bin is sold out, the number is never repeated. This keeps the selection fresh, so there is always something new to try.
“I love this collection of new Odd Bins wines,” comments seasoned sommelier, Spencer Fondaumiere. “There are some great finds, including two award winners. As in previous years, the Odd Bins wines exude opulence and carry sophisticated flavour profiles, yet are available at remarkable value.”
Some of Fondaumiere’s favourites include Odd Bins 428, Odd Bins 998 and Odd Bins 243.
Buy any three selected Odd Bins 750ml wines (excluding Cap Classique) before 9 October 2022 and save 25%.
Available from Checkers, Checkers Hyper, LiquorShop and LiquorShop Online (free delivery for all orders over R450).

Shoprite and Checkers has purchased more than 1.5 million litres of wine from South African farms since the start of lockdown to help ease the burden brought on by Covid-19. Global import and export restrictions, a struggling local economy, and multiple Covid-19-induced liquor bans have left many South African wine farms sitting on massive wine volumes.
The wine will be sold under a new exclusive label, called Elephant’s Cousin, as well as used for its wide range of other private label wine ranges. The move will help wine farms move surplus stock more rapidly – without a route to market, the knock-on effect of this unsold excess will be devastating for the industry.
At the same time, Shoprite and Checkers saw an opportunity to provide its wine-loving customers with a new and exciting range that offers superb value.
The new wine label is called Elephant’s Cousin, to channel the Cape’s popular dassie, the closest living relative of the African elephant. The small rock hyrax, which is sure of foot and big of tooth, is the perfect ambassador for this new range that will stand out on shelves for their quirky branding and competitive price point. Each also represents exceptional quality.
