Brand SA extends its warmest welcome to the world

CapeWine is not just another exhibition. It’s a stage where South Africa tells its wine story – who we are, what we stand for and why our wine matters.

CapeWine will once again be staged in September and promises to be one of the most important events on South Africa’s wine calendar. Organised by Wines of South Africa (WoSA), the exhibition is the country’s premier wine trade show, bringing together producers, buyers, media and influencers from across the world. CapeWine is also a powerful platform to promote Brand SA and tell the story of a dynamic, diverse and high-quality wine industry.

Held every three years, CapeWine provides a rare opportunity for the industry to present itself collectively to global audiences. It puts South African wine in the international spotlight and creates valuable connections that can drive trade, unlock export potential and build long-term partnerships.

CapeWine is vital in how South African wine is perceived and positioned globally, WoSA CEO Siobhan Thompson says. “The vision for CapeWine 2025 is to position South African wine as a global leader in quality, sustainability and diversity,” she says. “Our purpose is to create a dynamic platform that connects producers with international buyers, media and influencers to promote trade opportunities and elevate our industry’s reputation.”

Over 60% of attendees come from export markets, making CapeWine a vital commercial opportunity for South African producers and exporters. It allows them to engage directly with decision makers in retail, hospitality and distribution. These face-to-face interactions often translate into listings, features and orders, and open doors to markets that might otherwise be hard to access.

CapeWine also helps change perceptions. It shows South Africa is more than just a source of value-for-money wine. It’s a country producing award-winning, innovative and sustainable wines, backed by science, skills and a deep respect for nature and people.

This year’s event takes place at a crucial time. With rising global competition and increasing economic pressure at home, the need to stand out has never been more urgent. CapeWine 2025 is an opportunity for the local wine industry to provide a united front to promote its strengths and signal its ambition.

The theme for CapeWine 2025 is “Our Warmest Welcome.” It captures the spirit of South Africa – warm, generous and proud of its wine culture. “Although we’re all different, we share the same passion for producing and distributing internationally awarded and personally rewarding wines to people worldwide,” Siobhan says.

Visitors to CapeWine can expect an immersive experience that reflects this warm hospitality, from the wines on offer to the stories behind them, people who make them and places they come from. CapeWine is a branding opportunity for South Africa. It helps shape global perceptions and build lasting relationships.

“We want visitors to leave with a deep appreciation for South African wines’ quality, diversity and authenticity,” Siobhan says. “Above all, I hope they carry home a sense of connection to South Africa’s vibrant wine culture. This emotional connection is key. Wine is more than just a product – it’s about people, heritage and a sense of place. CapeWine allows South Africa to share that identity with the world.”

WoSA encourages our wine community to support and embrace CapeWine 2025. Whether participating as an exhibitor, attending as a guest or promoting the event through networks and channels, everyone in the industry can contribute to its success.

Producers are encouraged to bring their best wines and stories. Industry professionals can invite international contacts, engage on social media and create a buzz around the event. Retailers, sommeliers and educators can amplify the message that something special is happening in Cape Town in September. “The invitation is open – to attend, collaborate, inspire and welcome the world,” Siobhan says. “CapeWine is more than an exhibition. It reflects who the South African wine industry is – bold, creative, resilient and united.”

Success for CapeWine 2025 will be measured not only by the number of deals signed or media coverage gained, but by the depth of engagement and strength of relationships built.

“If visitors leave with a richer understanding of the people, passion and purpose behind South African wine, then the event will have done its job,” Siobhan says. “The hope is that international buyers, media and trade professionals walk away inspired, with new wines to list, new stories to tell and a lasting connection to Brand SA. More than anything, the industry wants them to take home the sense that South Africa is not just open for business – it’s open-hearted, world-class and ready to lead.”
