Yesterday (09 July), the results of the top 10 performers in the fifth annual Cape Bordeaux Red Blend Report 2019 were announced at Morgenster Wine and Olive Estate in Somerset-West.
65 entries were received from 53 producers for this year’s competition and these were tasted blind (labels out of sight) by the three-person panel, Christian Eedes, Roland Peens and James Pietersen, scoring done according to the 100-point quality scale. According to WineMag, the standard of wine were as good as ever with 29 of the 65 wines rating 90-plus. The Stellenbosch district once again dominated proceedings by producing seven of the top 10 and 20 of the top 29 wines rated 90-plus.
Congratulations to Virginia Povall for the Botanica Arboretum 2017, top wine with 94-points and recipient of a new 300-litre Selection barrel worth €903 (equivalent to R14 330 at the time of writing) from Tonnellerie Sylvain.
